I've done a pair of 6 1/2" components in my rear armrest area on my 88 900 hatchback, and I love the sound. I'm a much bigger fan of SQ (sound quality), rather than SPL (sound pressure level; pure volume).. The components give tight accurate bass, and I put the tweeter in the angled area near where the rear passenger's elbow would be. It sounds really good and clear, I just wish I could raise the sound stage a bit more by adding components up front, or a nice set of kickpanel speakers. Anyways, I would recommend going with the speakers in the armrest area. The enclosed area will give you a bit tighter of a sound than 6x9's in the open area of the stock locations.. Irie Tom, I have an 8" sub in my center console area, and I absolutely LOVE it. Let me know if you want instructions or pictures of the finished product. It gives nice, accurate and up front bass in the car. I'm not sending it too much power (80W, I think), but it doesn't distort, there is no clipping, and the 2 front passengers can very much feel the bass in their legs and seat of their pants. Plus my passengers love being able to watch the sub move as we drive.. Anyways, good luck to both of you!
