A bunch of questions -
I'm going to assume the smoke is from the exhaust. Yes, a leaky main seal can drop oil on the exhaust and cause smoke. You'd see that as smoke under the car/engine compartment when standing.
What color smoke? Coolant is whitish. Oil is bluish.
Is the smoke at idle, under load, or both? Smoke change as the car warms up? If you go down a hill and let off the gas, does the smoke get worse? (Sign of bad valve guides, possibly head gasket, too).
When you checked the compression, did you do a wet test, too? In a 'wet' test, you drop a tablespoon full of oil down the sparkplug hole turn the engine over a couple/three times, then check the compression again. You can only do a wet test after a 'dry' one. If the compression increases with a wet test, then the problem is probably due to rings/cylinder. If it doesn't increase much, then it's something else (valves, head gasket...).
Frankly, one cylinder 10% down isn't very bad. Not great, but not bad.
Please come back with more information on the smoke color, where it comes from, and when.
