The taper pin has to be the toughest delemma I have yet to see. When car is on a lift you can get a good hammer swing to jar it loose. On your back with 2 feet of clearance it is very difficult. I have the factory tool to remove the taper pin. I bent it. The best tool I've seen is the air hammer. It is possible to use a C-clamp and the right spacers to remove the pin. In any case the pin has been rendered useless for reuse. Sometimes drilling is the only answer.
