T3 rebuild kits....and other engine work....need advice Posted by Gordon [Email] (#97) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gordon) on Sat, 10 Aug 2002 16:57:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just sold my '86 spg to my brother who is getting his license shortly (convinced him to go with a Saab!) :) So now it's time to pay some attention to my old '85 spg.
Right now she has 291K original miles, it runs pretty good &the transmission is awesome, however, I got used to my '86 spg that had 167K when I bought it and the turbo in the '85 is really weak compared to it, also when first started it makes a ticking sound and smokes a little bit...I want to eliminate the ticking &smoking noise, and also get the boost back, as far as I know it's the original turbo, and nothing has been modified, all I did was put a K&N air inlet kit, magnecore wires &silicone vac. lines on it, would you guys reccomend one of those T3 turbo rebuild kits from Swedish Dynamics? or should I just find a used, lower mileage unti to swap it with? Also, I was talking a to a friend of mine at work who says he knows a lot about car engines (says) haha, and he said it sounds like the car needs a valve job, &the "lifters" adjusted. Can someone who knows tell me what needs to be done here???? Thanks a lot!!
