When I was in college, my first car was a 1984 900Turbo. I loved that car, and it was very reliable (except for having to rebuild the tranny at 150k).
When I moved back home to NYC I did not know anyone who would work on Saabs so I got rid of it and leased an Acura Integra.
Nowadays I am driving a '98 Audi A4 which I also love, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for Saabs. Especially the early ones.
Since my A4 is modified, it is extremely uncomfortable to drive on the streets of NYC (I live in Brooklyn) so I was thinking of getting a second car to drive around the city.
I have found several early 1990's 900S's, and there is a good chance that I might pick one of them up by next week.
I realize that Saabs are much more at home on the highway than in the city, and I would make sure that it gets a healthy dose of highway miles. But I feel that they are also durable and comfortable and would withstand the rigors of the harsh roads much better than my A4 will.
My '84 was an 8v turbo, and I've never had the NA 16v engine. Are there any issues I should be aware of with this model car? Is there anything in particular that I should look out for when I inspect the car?
Also, for my A4, I bought a VAG-COM so that I can read fault codes on my laptop computer. Does anyone make such a device for the Saabs?
Thanks very much!
