Aftermarket stereo noise problems cont'.. at wits end!

I have tried some soln's given to be by GM, and Justin VA w/o success. Basically I have a tut tut tut noise from my stereo with the engine running. I have an 8 yr old Clarion 6770 deck (RCA out only) with an Orion 65 x 4 amp.
The noise does not change with deck volume setting
The time between "tuts" is inversely proportional to engine speed.
Unplugging both the RCAs from the back of the deck eliminates the noise
And the weird one...
Unplugging just one RCA from the back of the deck (leaving the other still plugged in) eliminates the noise on the channel still active! This works with either RCA out!
I have tried:
1) Running the deck ground to a nearby piece of car body (ie not to the audio harness ground)
2) Running the deck ground directly to the battery
3) Running the deck ground to the same spot as the amp ground
4) Adding a passive noise supressor (American International 15 amp)
Nothing has helped... neither the deck chassis or amp chassis is touching ground (car body) anywhere, and all tests were conducted with the antenna unplugged.
Any other suggestions of things to try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Jeff
