your t-stats job is to keep it from getting too cool.. bung a new one in.. there can be no other cause for a car running too cool..
the excess steam from the exhaust is down the the short trips and the car running too cool.. for very gallon of gas burnt one gallon of water is produced.. if things are nice and hot this gets evaporated away as its formed.. if things are too cool this water builds up in the exhaust system instead.. it can cause premature rusting out of the back-box mostly..
contrary to popular (saab) oppinion.. its just as important to keep your car hot as it is to keep it cool.. running too cool will also cause excess water to build up in the oil as well.. the oil temp needs to go up every so often to get rid of this water.. the oil temp only goes up under heavier loads.. its not directly related to water temps.. give your car some stick every now and then..
