If I was going to buy it I'd check to see if the following has been replaced:
- radiator
- steering rack
- harmonic balancer
Also do a compression test to see if the head is cracked.
Check the body carefully, especially under the fender lips and
under the mud flaps.
If I was buying it I'd want to
- replace all the rubber tubing with silicon hose.
- get rid of fast idle A/C solenoid and all the additional plumbing (vacuum leaks)
- put mobil-1 in the engine and Honda MTF in the transmission
- replace the coolant with Mercedes brand.
- replace the wires with magnecore wires
- replace the air filter with a K&N filter
- install an apc from an 85 16V
- install aquamist 1s system (helps prevent the head from cracking when you push the turbo hard)
- install BSD timing advance control system ( really helps spool up time)
- install pressure relief valve upstream of the APC solenoid valve. ( helps spool up time)
That'll cost you about 1K in upgrades and it'll put a smile on your face. I'd keep my 83 forever but the body is starting to come unglued.
Let us know if you snag it.
Todd
