Ah -- this makes some sense. Let me see if I understand right, then -- the switch tells the CIS to ignore the reading from the O2 sensor if the temp is too low, but the threshold is wrong so the CIS provides a mixture based on a nonsense reading from a cold O2 sensor?
This actually makes some sense to me -- I got a new O2 sensor a few weeks ago and the problem has been noticeably worse since then. I attributed it to changing weather, but perhaps the new sensor needs a little more warmup than the old one did.
The only thing that doesn't seem to hold up here is the fact that it doesn't happen at all on a really cold start -- why doesn't the same problem occur as the engine reaches this transitional temperature?
Final question: from reading the thread you linked to, Micah, I got confused on the types of thermo switches out there -- old black-tipped (77 degree threshold), red-tipped (100-110 deg threshold), and new black-tipped (?? degree threshold?). The variation in thresholds seems extreme! Which is the right part?
