I bought a set (4) of the stainless steel weave brake line hoses to replace the stock rubber in the hopes to stiffen up my pedal response. I got up at dawn to do the chore, ensuring I would beat the heat, plus still have a half day left for other things. And I thought getting up that early was going to be the worst part! The front set went on without a hitch, and the one man bleed was successful. The rear set were a little more difficult to work on because of their location - above the rear axle. Then it happened. While attempting to unscrew the left side hose from beneath the car body, I felt resistance at first, followed by effortless turning. That's when I went "uh oh, this can't be that easy to turn so soon." It was then that I lifted the rear seat and saw to my horror that I had twisted the solid line in two close to the connection inside the car. I SHOULD have looked back there first!!! I managed to undo the second one without a problem. My error was that I assumed that the rear connection to the solid brake line was similar to the front, where there's a fitting that's screwed to the inside fender well. So there I was with a broken brake line and thinking I couldn't even drive it to the scrap yard for a replacement. But then it occured to me that if I could find a way to close off the line, I would at least be able to drive. I tried crimping it and doubling it over upon itself a few times and squeezed tight with a pair of channel lock pliers. That didn't work. So then I cut if off clean, flattened an inch of the end between two 2 lb hammers and used a pair of vice grip pliers to squeeze it shut. That worked! Now I can at least drive around while going easy on the braking until I can replace it bright and early tomorrow morning at the local friendly J-yard. I promise to never do that blunder again. Lesson learned.
