It never came to mind until I had a battery fail. The radio started to crap out, engine began to stumble, etc. and I had to call home to get my wife to pick me up, get tools and a replacement battery. I first jump-started it to try to get it the three blocks home, (and out of the BurgerKing lot) but it would not run after removing the jumper cables.

Long lead-in to question: Should the battery icon and the oil-can icon light up when just the ignition is on? I saw the battery light come on after I changed the battery momentarily when RPM's dropped a little after starting, but never remember seeing it before.

I got my voltmeter out and measured battery voltage; 13+v (brand-new battery). Started the car and saw no appreciable difference. Checked belt tension, decided they could be tighter, tho I'd heard no belt squeal.

Twice since, immediately after a start if the idle drops down a little while engaging clutch, I see the batt light flicker briefly.

Did I just start noticing this, or is something wrong? (91 900T)
