the 0W refers only to viscosity at -22F. M1 0W40 would likely satisfy viscosity requirements for a 15W40 oil. For all temps above freezing, likely thicker than 10W30. Better choise than 15w50 for cold starts and warm-up. Mobil used to only recommend M1 15W50 for racing. For long hard/hot runs, it passes the tough euro acea a3/b3 high temp (300F) viscosity requirements ... M1 10w30 doesn't.
Related ... I found castrol 5W50 synth thick as molases .... increased turbo lag significantly at all but full hot conditions. Then ran castrol 10W30 synth and stuff was obviously thinner, and ran with less lag.
Eventually settled on M1 0W30 for my 'mild' use.
Note a very sharp guy from NINES did not agree with that article. I don't buy some of it.
