Arguably more cosmetic - but important to some and on my list.....
As far as the convertibles go - making the top work right might never even happen if it does not work right when it falls into your hands. Make sure the top goes up and down with no problems! A new top with labor will set you back $1200-$2000 depending on where you are. The assembly that raises and lowers the top is not cheap either - check out the whole top set up for uneven/excessive top wear and oil level/leaks under the rear seat.
Not really an item - but did anyone mention rust - eventually it is expensive to fix properly and there's no way to stop it once it gets going. Don't buy a car with rust - there's always plenty more hidden away for you to find later.
