battery light coming on

Very strange problem. When ever i rev the car over 3500 rpm's, the battery light comes on. If I keep the rev's up that high, ie: highway driving at 85, the light will stay on and the battery will drain and eventually the car will die. But, if the rpm's drop below 3500 the light goes off. Car drives fine and as long as I keep the rpm's down, I have no problems. Any idea what this could be?
