That bulb should hardly be used (how often do you get to less than 2 gallons of gas?) and should not be burnt out. What might be defective is the sensor mechanism, which is part of the fuel level sender which sits in the gas tank - this part eventually goes bad on almost all old 900s. There are three wires running to the fuel level sender on my car, and grounding or shorting the proper one will illuminate the "Low Fuel" warning light - I don't recall exactly, don't have a wiring diagram here. Check this out before going after the bulb.
