Well,
I got the intake manifold off this weekend, and found the rubber bushing that got sucked in wedged just before the valves. I pulled it out with a needle nose no prob! Unfortunately, I was courageous (or naive) enough to believe the old intake manifold gasket would still be good after this. Needless to say, when everything was back in place, the car started, but was and is still sputtering alot. I thought I may have damaged an injector or connection to one, but pulling the harnesses one at a time proved they were all working. The car idles ridiculously rough, although its near its 800-900 RPM mark of before. I get a strong fuel smell from the exhaust (i think) and Ive turned the AMM all the way to one end. I assume Im taking in air at the gasket, I havent gotten my hands on a propane torch to confirm this, but will soon, in any event, when on the highway, the gas will surge at time when Im anywhere between 2500-3500 RPMs. I can disengage the clutch and the tach will race for a second or so. This may all be side effects. I did order a gasket in hopes of replacing it on my next day off (Christmas???) but will this be the solution to my can of worms??
In the meantime, the boost is still erratic. I get 5PSI some times, others I get 15. I replace alot of hoses and I still hear what sounds like a hissing near the AIC, is that hose prone to failure?? Any help is greatly appreciated...again
