Symptom: I drive infrequently (once/twice every week/2 weeks) and for short trips, which i know is bad for the battery. Now that it's cold, car won't start after sitting a few days. Battery only one year old. Once jumped, car seems to run fine. Restarts after short trip but won't start after sitting a few days.

Today i went outside with a volt meter and before getting into the car noticed that the LCD light in the dash (driver side speaker grille) was illumiated. I checked the interior light to see if it was on and it was not (nor was the switch in the 'on' position). I have a Saab factory alarm and although i have unplugged the alarm's horn years ago, this light usually blinks when it is armed.

I immediately figured this was the source of my drain so i went to unplug the unit under the back seat. Found the black box unit but couldn't find power wire. Found some wire attached to the box so i unplugged it but the light on the box didn't go out so i plugged it back in. Decided to leave the car and get some help here. However, upon leaving the car i noticed that the dashboard light neither illumiated (as i had found it upon arrival today) nor flashed (as it should normally). Any plausible explanation?

QUESTIONS:
1) How do i unplug the alarm permanently?
2) Which fuse is for the alarm? (only saw fuse for interior light, which i know is connected to alarm system, but not the alarm system itself)
3) Is this the likely source of my problem? What other tests can/should i do in the meantime?

Thank you.
