While cleaning the connections is always a good idea, I doubt tht you will notice the improvement. The real problem is with the green "reflector" blocks in the inst cluster, which get dirty and discolored. I have had some success brightening the cluster lighting by cleaning the block surface with a Q-tip and rubbing alchohol.
Remove the left speaker and you will see the 2 large bulb sockets at the top of the cluster. Remove these bulbs(half ccw turn-facing back of cluster). Then take a moistened Q-tip and stick it into the hole and rub the end around on the face of the block. You will not be able to see what you are doing, but by feel you can clean off one surface of each block.
If you are more ambitious, you can install indiglo gauge lighting, do a search to find out about this.
There are also LED replacement bulbs that are brighter, but I have not found anything but red versions. I don't think there is such a thing as a white LED and do not know how a colored version would work.
Do replace the 3 watt OEM bulbs with the 5 watt #194 bulbs. Thes bulbs get too hot and will melt dimples in the cluster plastic resulting in loose bulb mounts and intermittent lighting.
