noisy lifters after QS High Mileage oil

I recently put Quaker State High Mileage 5w30 oil in my 85 900T (320,000 kms) to see if it would help a slow leak I had. Not long after changing it, I started to get a lot of lifter noise. More than the usual Saab lifter noise! It would get quite loud, so I could hear it while driving. It comes and goes, sometimes after the car's been running for 15 minutes, then it comes and goes again.
How hard is it to fix? Are there any additives for lifter noise>
I have changed back to Castrol GTX today, so maybe it will iron itself out.
Thanks
John
