Hi folks. My beloved 1991 Saab 900, 2 doors hatchbac, is reaching its 300k kilometers (180 k miles)and is quite clean. No apparent rust, doesn't take any oil, and I've got it regularly maintained, but lately, it has neeeded more care like alternator, exhaust, the usual things until.. today.
Last week, I heard a "crack" sound from the left side front suspension while starting, uphill at a red light.
Today, I got it checked since this noise occurs each time I start, or change from reverse to 1st gear and same from 1st to reverse.. The noise is due to: you know, when you get the car aligned, there are two bolts that you unloose to insert shims, the one closer to the firewall got off its hole.. stripped. The mechanic can't retighten it..
He says that redrilling a hole there, new threads and all, would involve several hours and would cost close to $600 u.s. or more, just to make that repair.
Considering that the car is quite old, needs a new exhaust, winshield, and little things, does it worth it? what would you guys do?
Any advice welcomed. Anybody has experienced that kind of problem??
Sylvain
