and then pull the bottom edge back towards the front seats. The knee bolster is held in place by the two edge bolts in the fender wells, one bolt behind the center ash tray, and two clips in the dash frame which are shaped exactly like the belt clip on a tape measure (oriented so that they fit into slots on the back of the knee bolster "from above.")
The knee bolster will slide down 1.5"-2" or so until it is free from these clips. At this point it will be nearly touching the wheel wells. Then it can be pulled away from the dash frame. It might help to have both doors open to increase your wiggle room.
