A bad belt was my first thought too. Before it's final death while climbing that hill with the first symptoms, I pulled over at one point and managed to restart it with the hood open to see what I could see. All belts were sound and all pulleys were spinning. A seized pilot bearing? I don't see how that little bearing could cause that engine to not run. Even if seized the engine would start and idle with the tranny in nuetral. Also, a seized water pump would have revealed itself with climbing coolant temps (plus the belt noise and burning rubber smell), which did not happen.
