About 2 years ago one of my AC Lines developed a crack. It was replaced and filled with 134a. It had R12 and worked PERFECTLY until this point. The 134a works ok, but runs much more and causes my compressor to groan /whine during operation. Now I know that It is running at a higher pressure due to the 134a, and that its not as efficient so it runs more, but I was wondering if there is a fix for the groan / whine.

I read a post on the 9-5 board where they said to change the expansion valve for groaning A/C's. I know that the mechanic didn't change the valve in mine when he did the conversion, so I was wondering if maybe my valve is bad. The compressor gets very hot during operation, and on a hot day it won't ever shut off (never reaches a cool enough temp).

Any ideas on how to cause less groan and maybe better cooling on this? I'm moving from VT to GA this summer and I'm not looking forward to the heat with my half-a$$ a/c. When It was R12 I could leave it on the lowest fan setting and it would be too cold in the car...
