Stereo stolen, thoughts on adding blinking red LED?

Some junkie ripped off the stereo last week. Fortunately, not on my watch so the parking garage will pay to replace. They apparently left the door unlocked so I only have a broken dash fascia and missing stereo. Any ideas on a good place to pick up an excellent condition used dash fascia?
My thoughts on deterrents for my 92 900 convertible:
1. I was thinking of replacing the non operating blinking led in the dash with the radio shack battery operated blinking led (part #276-299 - $3.49) and hooking up a switch that I could easily reach. Anyone know how to hook up a led that comes on automatically when the ignition is off? This is a big deterrent I think.
2. I am putting the new stereo in the lower din slot - the radio automatically flips when the ignition is turned off. I have toyed with the idea of putting the oem back in the top slot as a decoy for now since I visit the same garage regularly.
3. Has anyone modified the lock plunger (can't think of a better name) so you can't pry it up so easily on the convertible by sliding something in the edge of the glass?
4. Any other deterrents short of an alarm - which is useless to me since I do not park near where *I* could hear it.
Thanks,
Carter 92 900 convertible
