I went to a store yesterday to pick up some parts- I was paying at the counter, 25 feet from the passengers door of my 86' 900. The car is off.Between us is about $40,000 worth of boat engines and outdrives, along with a 12' tall by 10' wide plate glass window.
Well, my 5 year-old gets out of his car seat and wedges himself between the front seats reaching for his toy on the dashtop and in the process turns the ignition key (yes, I left it in place-I'll never do THAT again!). You can guess the rest; the car is in gear, it lurches forward jumps the sidewalk and bumps against the window. Before I can lunge at it and put it in neutral, it punches through the window (which literally EXPLODED towards the inside of the store!)and comes to rest on the VERY EXPEN$$IVE boat parts.
Damage to the store: lots!
Damage to the SAAB: a handfull of barely-visible scratches on the hood and bumper.
Damage to my self-esteem: critical.
My son's scare-factor:10+
No one was hurt in the making of this chapter of my SAAB-story.
