I've used a four inch length of the stuff with the fabric braid on the outside to splice lines near the pump before. The way that stuff works, if you butt the tubing so the joint is in the middle, you could pull as hard as you can and never pull the lines back out. I put clamps on but I doubt they are really needed but for peace of mind. I have two cars I need to do this on, having f^%&ed up the last replacement on my '90. Thw Walbro setup has to be one of the dumbest things Saab did in the later C900s.
Seat the new valve in a length of scrap tubing on the bench.
