the screwdriver test really is not that helpfull brand new lifters will be very springy but a lack of springiness does not mean your lifters are absolutely bad. I would remove the camshafts and lifters and inspect the lifter bores for wear also, on the bottom of the lifters you can see the cylinder that contacts the top of the valve, if it is sized (you cant move it in and out with your fingers) then you have bad lifters.
Test for oil pressure this will tell you a lot, too low an no lifters, too high and there is most likely a blockage.
You can put in lifters from a different car, one two or all, were not talking a new car here so dont sweat it.
The bently manual suggests that there might be an air bubble in the oil passages keeping oil pressure out, but in practice this virtually never happens but the solution is to losten the black bolt in the top right cap and allow the air to escape.
