Hi all.
I am putting a rebuilt trans from a 16v NA into my turbo and know that I need to swap the covers for mount compatibility. When I removed the cover from my old trans (GM55602) I found a round bearing assembly covered by a plastic disc with a tab on it that fit into the output shaft (lower gear). The bearing seems to fit on a machined end of the output shaft.
The rebuilt trans (GM45712) didn't have this bearing or the machined shaft end, but did have the plastic be that was held into the cover by a toothed retaining ring...
My cover from my old trans does have as deep a cutout for the plastic disc as the 457 trans.
My question(s):
What is that plastic part for? How can I fit it in my cover (since I don't think I can use the bearing)? Has anyone else run up against this?
Thanks.
I will try and snap some dig pix later and post for clarity.
