I have owned my 1987 900T convert for many years but even though I done much work on this car, had never adjusted the timing mainly because over the years mechanics have told me not to touch the timing if the car runs good. I finaly bought a timing light and with the help from this board and a bit of my own discovered that the timing was set to approx 8 degrees - I re-adjusted to approx 17 degrees and right away noticed that the idle speed increased from approx 850 RPM to slightly over 1000 RPM which I will re-adjust back down to 850 RPM. Initialy had a very frustrating time trying to read the flywheel markings however------
****Some helpful hints were --
1. With the engine running held a toothbrush diped in WD40 to the flywheel which cleaned and made the markings more visible.
2. With the engine at normal idle could hardly read the markings however -- by increasing the RPM the markings became much clearer.
