The car is an '88 SiS automatic > one of five produced > the other 283 were 5spds. VIN verification is being checked also, so finding another body to swap the parts into was not really considered. Converting to 5spd was suggested also, but nixed by the owners.

I don't know if you are familiar with the Crisman's? who own the car. You may recall their two sons who were avid TSN'ers and tragically killed a few years ago? or are familiar with the Crisman Memorial Award? which is sponsored by Scott and TSN at the SOC's?

The car is being restored in their honor.

The car sat outside filled with water for the last two years, so the front floors took the hit as far as rust goes. I'm not sure which pillars you are referring to? A-pillars? B-pillars? C-pillars?, but none of those areas were affected. The two rails that run through the front floors, and are welded to the pans, are still intact and solid, probably having to do with the fact that they were well-oiled by engine and tranny leaks. The rocker panels are still solid(one hole at the driver side jack support), and considering they were beefed up for the convertible anyway, no worries there. The wheel lips are all there, except for a 2" section rusted through on one of the rear lips(driver rear)....I have a half a dozen cars to cut good metal from, and 20 years experience welding on automobiles, so I'm not the least bit worried about naysayers comments. :>)

The car was assessed last weekend by half a dozen long-time Saab owners, and deemed salvageable, so I wasn't alone on the decision to save this car > I just volunteered my expertise in bodywork and welding to fix the car.
