cracked head?

Last weekend I picked up an '87 T w/5 speed from an impound lot on auction. I didn't pay much for it and figured even if it was shot, it would still be a good parts car for my '87 T w/auto. The body was surprising in good shape...straight, good paint, with just a few spots of rust bubbles showing. I drove it up onto the trailer and towed it home. After giving it the once over, I found the coolant tank smelled of gas as well as the oil. I topped off the coolant tank, started it up, and let it warm up a bit. What followed was a puddle of coolant filling my garage floor. I had a stream of coolant running down a bolt by the exhaust manifold, closest to the firewall. Is it safe to assume the head has one major crack in it or is it something more sinister? If it is a bad head, I have my choice of a replacement from either an '86 T or a '90 n/a. Which one should I use? Will I need to also change the cams? Thanks!
