Battery drains when cars not locked?

My driver-side key entry is loose and it was acting strange recently -- only partially released the door without turning it twice.
Anyway, a couple days later I came out to my car at work and it was dead. I had a new battery and the charging system works well so I pretty much knew I had a short somewhere. Within a day I'd figured out just from circumstatial evidence that it's in the door locks.
Here's the question. I don't do electrical very well -- I just replace stuff that breaks. Is the problem likely stemming from the loose key entry or the door lock mechinism in one of the doors. To me it seems like I've just got a faulty switch, but if that's the case, would I need to change out the key entry? I'd rather not have to do this and end up with a differnt key for the door and the ignition?
Any thoughts on this?
