Re: Auto Belts: lube the tracks for better action Posted by EverettDave [Email] (#1894) [Profile/Gallery] (more from EverettDave) on Thu, 14 Apr 2005 00:47:49 In Reply to: Re: Do you have automatic seatbelts?, Vanessa, Tue, 12 Apr 2005 18:19:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Vanessa, I discovered recently that the auto belt's movement can be sped up and improved simply by cleaning and then lubing the track along the upper door jam. My '89 SPG began to have slow / balky belt action at the aft door top corner. I simply wiped the track clean, then used some WD-40 along the entire track. Wow! Much improved action. Just as WD-40 is very good for all door and hatch locks to prevent winter freezing, these automatic seatbelt tracks can also use some light lube.
So far, at 140k miles, my '89's belts work well and as designed, in spite of the common changeover by owners to the manual belt type. Knock on wood! Will you explain how you discovered your belts were the cause of a battery drain? What were the symptoms?
Thanks
Dave of Everett, WA
