Switching AMM to 88 900 S

I replaced the vac hoses in the engine compartment, cleaned out the AMM and throttle areas which left me with a noticeably stronger engine but my idle
still hunts between 1,000 and 1,500 RPM after the engine warms up. Now it does it even more agressively. It's also still harder to start after it warms up.
My main suspect now is the AMM and possibly the O2 sensor. I've got another AMM from my 88 (needs a clutch) which I could harvest or my 89(hit a deer). These not S's and the 89 is an automatic.
I saw in the archives that you can damage other components if you put in the wrong AMM. So my question is, will my 88 or 89 AMM work OK in my 88 900 "S"?
I'm also more confident that the 89 is in working order.
