... will boil off as the vacuum increases (think back to high school chemistry class). I always put a guage on the system, then put the compressor on it and suck it down for 20-30 min (the compressor I have is from a small fridge, so it takes a while to get a good vacuum). Then I disconnect the compressor and leave for another half hour. If the needle didn't move on the guage while I was gone, then I go ahead and start filling the system with refridgerant.
I've never used the CC pump, but I would think it might work. You just need to make sure you leave it connected long enough to pull a really good vacuum on the system.
