The good news is that if you've been driving around for a while (days, weeks) with low oil pressure, you'd have probably destroyed the engine by now. When the car first starts and the oil light is on, does the engine clatter a lot, then settle down once the light goes off? If so, that's a sign that the oil pressure is low.
Yes, most likely you've got a bad oil pressure sender. If you truly had low oil pressure, it would be noisy, then become a very expensive quiet. Engines don't run without decent oil pressure. Or don't run for long.
However, I would get the oil pressure checked immediately. Not next week. Yes, it may be a bad sender, but you've just dropped bucks on this engine, and lunching it would be no fun. I wouldn't just replace the sender and be happy if the light goes out. Check the pressure against the specs. It's not expensive - just pull the sender and go down to the autoparts store. You can buy a cheap mechanical oil pressure gauge and some couplings to plump it in. Not to the dash - just as a check with the hood open. If the pressure is OK, then replace the sender.
