You need to find and fix the leak first. If Freon can get out, at some point moisture will get in and freeze and block the expansion valve. Dollars to doughnuts you need a new set of lines (the ones from the compressor) and a new receiver/drier after opening the system. Then you need to have the system evacuated to remove trace moisture. Then you dump the R134a in the kit in. If you proceed in this order the results can be very satisfactory.
