Let's ask the usual questions:
What's it have in it for spark plug wires? If they're not Bouicords or magnacores - that could well be the problem. The APC picks up stray RF emissions from unshielded spark plug wires through the knock sensor cable, interprets them as knock and takes you back to base boost.
You might want to look at the FAQ for base boost and follow the checklist.
Believe it or not, sometimes the connector just falls off the APC box and you have to put it back on. I've seen a couple of those.
And, on occasion, the box fails. The original APC box in my '89 SPG had a heat-sensitive failure. I replaced it with an untweaked, plain vanilla APC box but just haven't had time to open up the SPG APC box and find the broken solder joint.
