new head gasket, white exhaust smoke

I picked up a '87 T at an impound auction a few months back. The car was abandonded because of a blown head gasket, part of it was missing between cylinder #1 and the outside edge. I replaced the head gasket, had the head checked, and bolted everything back together. When I first started it up it smoked badly and coolant was dripping, no, blowing out of the tailpipe. I've since taken it for short (five minute) runs around the neighborhood and let it sit and idle to get nice and warm. I suppose it's run for 30-45 minutes total. Now when I start it up everything seems fine, but once it gets warm I am getting white exhaust and it's coolant. I'm not losing any coolant out of the tank, the level hasn't decreased at all and my oil looks good...no chocolate milk mess. I KNOW the exhaust system had to be full of coolant prior, is this just a matter of letting it run until it burns out? Will I need to change out the cat or muffler? Or is it more sinister and something is wrong with the head and/or gasket even though it was checked out and replaced?
