I'd give it a shot, but as I recall, messing with that shift coupler is one of the crappiest jobs to do on a Saab, one of the very few things you must get under the car for, and have a good selection of wobble extensions and stubby ratchets.
I'm just too cheap to send any job out, I'd rather buy the tools for a one-time job, rather than feel the mechanic's sting.
Example: First fuel pump to go on my 92 cost me $300 to install, I supplied my own pum from Eeuroparts. A year later, the plastic pump housing melted down, causing strong gas smell in the car. Special fuel pump tool & entire used pump cost $190, and took 15 minutes to install.
Without the tool, I might still be hammering away at that damn plastic retainer ring.
