Here is the scoop. The clarion CD in the lower din stops working after 2 or 3 minutes of play. So I pulled out both the CD player/EQ from the lower din and the radio/tape from the upper din. I found myself a Taurus cupholder for the upper din and have decided on a new cd headunit for the lower din. And that is as far as I got. When I pulled out the cage on the cd/eq, I wasn't sure how to disconnect the two pin bundles that connected to the back. That didn't bode well. Bestbuy advertises they will install the stereo if you buy it from them. Cool, I thought, I have a 150 dollar gift certificate to BB and I won't have to deal with rewiring to bypass the rear amp. "Not so fast", says BestBuy. "We don't do Saabs... we have to cut wires and that makes us liable." "Liable for what?", I thought (outloud).
Now My cnvt has no sound, the Bentley wiring diagram seems inconsistent with what I have, and I haven't got a clue where or how to run wires to the rear speakers from the head.
Here are my questions;
1) Should I just go to an audio installer? How much should that run?
2) If I do it myself should I buy a harness from crutchfield? Will that save me any headaches in the long run?
3) If I do it myself I have to tackle the rear speaker issue? Any recommendations? Where do I run the wires and how? If I splice into the amp will I blow the rears?
Lastly, I feel like a moron. I have replaced the stereos on two older 900t's and an S. Never had to deal with the amp before. When I replaced the head on my 9000CS, Circuit city did it, bypassed the amp and moved to lower din. I liked circuit city. I hate BestBuy. Too bad the gift certificates are non transferable.
I know a lot has been said on stereo replacement... I have printed it all out and studied over it, repeatedly. I guess I'm looking for a magic bullett. Anybody got one?
Thanks,
Andrew K
