Wheel Bearing Press-job Question Posted by Paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul) on Fri, 7 Oct 2005 15:01:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi:
My son bought two new SKF bearings through a sponsor, and took them along with the Hub assemblies to a machine shop recommended by a local indy.
I picked them up at lunch today amd have a few questions.
1. I'd have expected these with new bearings to feel similat when spun by hand. I guess the "feel" is similar, but when you spin one by hand and release it, it turns perhaps an additional 3/4 turn on it's own. The other one only spins anothe quarter tun or so after release. Both are smooth and tight, just wondered if anyone else had noticed similar behavior, or if this sounds significant.
2. They may have been like this when we took them in, because we did not clean off all of the grease, but the flat surface surrounding the entry ro the splined cavity is somewhat beat up. Nothing that would interfere with the spline of the axle entering, but I don't know if this is a critical surface, or if it can affect whether the spline fits correctly.
Thanks for any thoughts.
Paul
