I have mentioned it before that this is one of the items where it might be wiser to have a good Saab shop do the work.
The labor charge to replace the seal is only 1 hour.
It can be done from under with the car up in the air.
The shifter shaft needs to be seperated by removing the conical pin and nut.
I have seen people ruining the shifter shaft when knocking the old seal out, making dents in the shaft. That will create a leak even with the new seal and to fix that leak, the transmission has to come apart.
It is quite cramped space up there so getting the new seal pushed in without damaging the seal is a task in itself.
DIY owners have succeded in doing it though so it is not impossible but take some skill and tools.
