Well I'm kinda stumped. I thought that maybe you had a wastegate control problem but (in my mind) even that shouldn't create boost under no load condition. Silly as it sounds, Are we sure that your boost gauge is not screwed up? Does it indicate a vacuum of about halfway through the white band at idle (like it should)? I know that a bad gauge isn't the source of your real problems but it could be clouding the view. If the wastegate is never opened, because for instance the diaphragm of the control unit is shot, then you would sure boost into the red under load. This could also be caused by various APC system problems. If you lose power and "buck" when charging up a hill that could be the overpressure switch killing the fuel pump. All of my brainstorming here keeps dragging me back to 'check the ig. timing'. It shouldn't move on its own (unless someone forgot to tighten the bolt) but people do all kinds of inexplicable stuff and your car will run with the timing WAY off but it will overheat like crazy. I mean boiling, knocking, screach to a halt overheat. See what spark plugs are in there too. A too hot plug may be part of this deal. Suppose that for some reason the previous owner took the car for a "tune up" to the wrong guy and he puts in hot plugs and, because even just seeing the marks on the flywheel takes some dedication to the task, he sets the timing using the wrong mark or forgets to tighten the clamp and, oh yea, it is possible to tighten the bolt with the clamp misplaced and the dist. then isn't really clamped. Seen it happen. I'll be interested to know what the solution is.
