I swear by Edmunds TMV True Market Value. It puts that car's value at slightly less than $1000. Value is always a relative thing. I could see paying that much, if in pristine condition. All of the price guides are a little unfair on mileage with Saabs, as they can easily go beyond 250,000 miles with good maintenance, but they are all based on what insurance will pay if totaled, which is the bottom line.
He will have a tough time selling this car. Print out the Edmund's value, call him back in 3 weeks, and offer him the private party price of $980. I recently sold my 92 4 door, no turbo, 210K mileage for $850, it was in excellent mechanical shape, handled like brand new, and should give the new owner a few good years of service without an major issues, If he can guarantee that, it may be worththe asking price.
