In trying to remember exactly what other posters have written about the wisps of white smoke -- one poster mentioned it was possibly the condensed water burning out of the crankcase, or, the residual water converting to vapor.
One product that I have used for cleansing out condensed water from the crankcase is called "Sea Foam" available at NAPA -- I have used one can in thirds -- one part each for the crankcase, fuel tank, and the balance induced into the intake system by following the directions.
After you run the oil for a period time, change it out with fresh oil, and the crankcase moisture should be eliminated. The Sea Foam in the tank of gas will help clear through the water as well.
By attacking this problem on all three fronts simultaneously, you should be able to clear out the water -- until it builds up from the next cycle which is promoted by not keeping the tank full, and not fully warming up an engine during the cold winter months.
