How to tell they've got nothing better to do Posted by Saana88 [Email] (#207) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saana88) on Sun, 12 Feb 2006 13:02:19 In Reply to: Vanity Plates??, DSPG89, Sat, 11 Feb 2006 15:55:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I don't have one yet; first I have to save up for the (insert expletive here) insurance to put the second car on the road. Some fun examples, though:
CRYBABY (Saab-er)
My all-time favorite, which was a standard-issue plate from Florida:
RU2 469
(Well that depends on what mood you're both in...)
The latest fad around here (NY still requires two license plates) is pulling off the front plate. Uh, okay, first of all you've still got the two/four huge license plate screw holes in the bumper cover, second of all it's a Camry for the pete of sake, dot dot dot
As far as being harassed by the cops, it's normal. I've been followed three times in the past month, all while you know they're typing into the computer and watching for an excuse to give them something to do.
Situation: I'm waiting for the last westbound of the day, parked off the road on public property, my camera is either around my neck or on the tripod, I'm there with a few (train) models in the car, and I'm wearing the anticop "Amtrak Engineering" baseball cap. Local (bored) constable on patrol pulls up and tries to make it look like they care asking you the dumbest questions on the planet ("so you do this for fun?") while typing your license plate into the computer to see if you're wanted for anything. I know that as long as I am on public land or have the permission of the property owner(s) I'm fine. I inspect the train on the way by, and the land owners have repeatedly told me to keep it up because I keep the addicts/partying kids/neckers/dealers from using the same spot for illicit purposes. Get used to it. It's how they work.
