MS, I too have found that the most common problem following a head R&R is having a cam off by 1 tooth. It is a very subtle distinction but causes real poor performance. I've never been able to loosen bound-up Saab 16V lifters with soaking and even heating but I've always had excellent results from using good, 'cushy' lifters from salvaged heads. Performance guys will usually tell you that that is a terrible thing to do but us guys on this board are going for cost effective longevity of our classic 900s, not blinding 350 HP performance, right? Cheers.
