I'd hold off on the band adjustment until you've done the drain/add about four times. if you still have slipping then I'd drop the pan and clean it out. there is a small magnet under a metal tent on the pan, slide it out and clean and replace. Also, if the bash plate has been bent into the pan you need to bend it back. this happens. if it is touching, usually on the front edge do this: take the three bolts out from the front, then bend down to about 45 degrees of so, then loosen the rears (don't take off), refit the fronts and check for clearance. if ok then tighten fronts and rears.
Also, when you are doing to do this you should get a new gasket. There is also a filter inside that can be either cleaned out or replaced.
This is the way I like to do this. Jack the car in the air, put jackstands under the lower A arm rear bushing supports. Drop the bash plate. position drain pan and unscrew the straight blade screw. (the oil drain is a 13mm - *ALWAYS* use a 6 point socket to keep from rounding it). after the drain is about down there is still more in the pan. I remove the bolts on the left and right sides (the short sides) first, then remove all of them on the long side closest to the driver. BE careful as you may begin to have trans fluid come over that side. loosen the other long side, this will allow the pan to droop on the drivers side, and fluid will come over the side. allow to slow and loosen more until all is out. then remove the pan.
you should only really have to do this once, then do the drain/add/2 or 3 quarts FA only... for about 3-4 times.
