What's a "half shaft"? Posted by CMyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CMyles) on Wed, 19 Apr 2006 11:31:41 In Reply to: REPLACEMENT HALF SHAFTS, BEN P, Wed, 19 Apr 2006 10:59:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Ben P, We need better teminology. Do you actually need the axle shaft that goes from the tripod bearing to the (outer) constant velocity joint? Just curious, what happened to your axle shaft? They are pretty hard to hurt. You should have no trouble getting an axle shaft at a salvage yard. Yes you need to get the shaft for the right or left side as they are slightly different lengths. Be sure to lay the old one and new one side by side to be sure that they are precisely the same length. Is there a problem with vibration or knocking of the front axle assembly? If so then you probably need an inner driver and tripod bearing or a clean and re-pack of the (outer) CV joint. Cheers.
